What to do in Singapore when it’s raining

What to do in Singapore when it rains: two areas, Marina Centre and Orchard, where dozens of indoor activities are joined together and linked to the MRT.

Here’s what to do in Singapore when it rains. The easiest answer is to pick a building rather than a venue: two areas, Marina Centre and Orchard, have dozens of indoor activities joined together and connected to MRT stations, so you can get there and move between them without going outside.

Marina Centre: stay underground the whole way

Marina Square and Suntec City sit side by side. They connect to City Hall station through the CityLink underpass and to Esplanade and Promenade stations at the other end, so you can arrive underground and stay under cover.

Marina Square has two escape rooms, for different groups. Lockdown Escape is the family one — bear-themed, with proper puzzles, and playable from about age eight. Kids In The Room is made only for children: brightly lit, never actually locked, and about ninety minutes long, with costumes at the start and a ball pit at the end.

The same mall has Kiztopia, the chain’s flagship indoor playground at about 18,000 square feet with eighteen themed zones, plus V-Room for VR by the hour, and a Timezone.

Next door in Suntec City there is SuperPark, with about thirty activities on one ticket, the Cow Play Cow Moo flagship, open until 1am, and Teo Heng karaoke, where you pay for the room by the hour rather than per person.

Orchard: all under cover

Orchard Central, Orchardgateway and 313@Somerset are joined together on top of Somerset station, and The Centrepoint and Cineleisure are a covered walk away.

There are two different Floor Is Lava venues a few minutes apart. BOUNCE and SkyPark by Kiztopia are both in Cineleisure. Sandbox VR and VR+ZONE are at either end, and Trapped Escape Room is at The Centrepoint. K Bowling Club on level 3 of 313@Somerset has twelve lanes, a bar, pool tables and karaoke rooms, and stays open until 1am.

There are self-photo studios here too — Hana Film, PhotoNow and Solace are a few minutes’ walk from each other.

If you’re nowhere near either

Other parts of the island have the same kind of thing on a smaller scale. At Jurong East, Westgate and JEM are built on top of the station. Our Tampines Hub has an indoor playground and karaoke under one roof. Kallang Wave Mall is joined to Stadium station.

Two are worth the trip on their own: Climb Central Funan, a full-height climbing gym in a basement with over two hundred routes, and The Mind Cafe on Prinsep Street, with around 800 board games, free-flow drinks in the entry price, and opening until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Five things worth knowing

  1. Check what’s open before you set off. Many indoor playgrounds close at 8pm, while arcades and karaoke rooms stay open past midnight. Our open-now page shows what is open right now in Singapore.
  2. Book escape rooms and VR, but not arcades. Escape rooms and VR arenas sell timed slots, and they fill up on a wet weekend. Arcades, claw machines and photo booths never need booking.
  3. Most trampoline parks and indoor playgrounds require grip socks. You can buy them at the counter, but they cost more there.
  4. Everyone else has the same idea. Weekday afternoons are quiet, and a wet Saturday at 2pm is as busy as these places get. Going half an hour earlier or later makes a real difference.
  5. Some stay open late. Cow Play Cow Moo and K Bowling Club are open until 1am, and Teo Heng at Suntec until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Hours and prices change — confirm with the venue before travelling. If something on one of our listings is out of date, there’s a form at the bottom of every one.
