Here’s how to book a karaoke room in Singapore for a birthday: which chains take a group of ten, thirty or a hundred, which let you bring your own cake, and what to check when you call.

The answers depend mostly on how many people are coming, so the venues below are sorted by party size.

Up to ten people

Teo Heng is the cheapest by a long way. A large room takes ten and costs $17 an hour before 7pm and $25 after, for the whole room rather than per person, GST included. You can bring your own cake, food and drinks; alcohol is the only thing not allowed.

Teo Heng only takes bookings by phone, and a weekend evening needs one.

For something more special at this size, Jewel Music Box in Pasir Ris takes up to fifteen and includes free-flow soft drinks and snacks in the price.

Ten to thirty

RAVE at Marina Square is set up like a party room: a small stage, standing microphones, and darts, beer pong and arcade machines for anyone who doesn’t want to sing. Rooms take from six to thirty people. You can bring your own food, and packages start at around $16.90 for three hours.

Thirty to a hundred

Candy K-Bar at TripleOne Somerset has eighteen rooms in five sizes, including themed ones such as a Princess room and a Monkey God room, and a VIP room for up to fifty with darts, foosball and LED lighting. Afternoon packages come to around $27 a head for two hours.

K.STAR has rooms for 6 up to 100 people and an event planning service for big bookings. Its Plaza Singapura outlet has themed rooms — space, anime, carnival, retro — and sits on top of Dhoby Ghaut station, where three MRT lines meet, which helps when thirty people are going home at midnight.

If the food matters most

7th Heaven at SAFRA Tampines is a karaoke place and a cafe in one, with rooms for up to 25 or 30 people and a full kitchen — salted egg wings, smoked duck pizza, ribs. They can arrange decorations and a cake for you, though their cakes are expensive for the size.

Can you bring a cake?

Most venues don’t publish a policy, so it depends where you go.

  • Teo Heng: yes. Outside food and drink are allowed at every branch. No alcohol.
  • RAVE: yes, outside food is fine.
  • 7th Heaven: arrange it with them in advance rather than arriving with one.
  • Everywhere else: phone and ask. It takes a minute.

Ask about candles on the same call too.

Book a bigger room than you think

Room sizes assume everyone is sitting still. A room for ten holds ten people, but not ten people plus a cake, presents and bags. This is especially true at Candy K-Bar.

If you can, book one size up. With a by-the-room rate it usually costs only a few dollars more an hour.

Room sizes, packages and prices change — confirm when you call, especially for a large booking. If something on one of our listings is out of date, tell us.
