XRChamber (Highland Centre)

Open now Serangoon $$ Mid-range
Pixel-art illustration of three players in VR headsets reaching and aiming in front of a row of arcade-style VR cabinets at XRChamber, neon strips tracing the dark walls and floor.

XRChamber runs virtual reality for people who are not sure they want it. Alongside Beat Saber and a zombie shooter there are 3D travel tours you take sitting on the couch, so a group spanning several decades can all find something worth putting a headset on for.

Six headsets run off an hourly pass, and the hour buys unlimited games rather than one title. The catalogue covers Beat Saber, Fruit Ninja, Arizona Sunshine II, Among Us 3D, the co-op kitchen game Cook-Out and a horror simulator, plus Walkabout Mini Golf, which is a VR course rather than a real one. There is a multiplayer escape room and a VR drawing game. A lounge with couches sits alongside, which matters in a room this size — whoever is not wearing a headset has somewhere to sit.

Staff set the games up and teach you the controls rather than handing over a headset and leaving you to it, which is what makes it work as a first go at VR. It takes birthday bookings and team sessions of six to twelve with a host, and it will bring the headsets to you if you would rather hold the thing somewhere else. Book rather than turning up. It is on the second floor of Highland Centre on Yio Chu Kang Road, and the only room in the north-east given over to VR.
