Fotomat is a black-and-white self-photo studio above Craig Road in Tanjong Pagar, and the first in Singapore to shoot only in monochrome.
The setup strips out everything else: no photographer, no themed set, barely any props — just lighting, clean shadows and a shutter clicker in your hand. A fifteen-minute session covers two people and unlimited frames, with two prints included; digital copies are an add-on. Next door there is a cafe built around a vinyl collection, which is where most people end up before or after.
It suits couples, graduating students and anyone after a portrait rather than a souvenir — the absence of colour and props does much of that work. It is the opposite proposition to the themed booths: if you want a laundromat backdrop and animal headbands, this is deliberately the wrong studio. Craig Road is quiet, with Outram Park and Tanjong Pagar both walkable.
