Boulder Movement (Downtown Gallery)

Open now Tanjong Pagar $$ Mid-range
Pixel-art illustration of five climbers spread across a long grey bouldering wall at Boulder Movement Downtown Gallery, three friends resting on benches beside a training rig with gymnastic rings.

Boulder Movement at Downtown Gallery was the first climbing gym in the CBD when it opened in 2017, and it is still the chain’s most beginner-friendly branch.

The walls here are shorter than at its sister gyms, which sounds like a limitation and is actually the point: a lower wall is where you learn to fall properly, and the routes are set with that in mind. Harder problems are there for people who want them, but the balance sits towards the start of the grade range. There is a fitness corner for strength work, and showers, which matters when you are climbing between an office and dinner.

It suits first-timers and anyone working in Shenton Way with an hour to spare. Climbers looking for a bigger space or steeper walls will find the chain’s other branches more interesting — this one is compact by design and sits in a basement, so it is a workout rather than a day out.
