fit · bloc (Telok Ayer)
fit · bloc at Telok Ayer is built around a competition wall, and its route-setting works both ends of the range — beginner problems going up alongside ones meant to be projected over weeks. It is the only competition wall the chain has built, so save something for it.
Bouldering takes most of the floor, with an auto-belay high wall for rope climbing without a partner and a Tension Board 2 for training. There are showers, a foot-washing bay and a co-working space; the pool and sauna are Kent Ridge only, though a day pass covers all three gyms on the day you buy it. Shoes, harnesses and chalk are at the counter, so bring socks.
The way in is worth knowing before you arrive: the gym is six floors up in MND Building Annexe B on Maxwell Road, the lift stops at level five, and you walk the last floor up the stairs. Three stations put you within a sheltered walk — Telok Ayer Exit A, Maxwell Exit 2 and Tanjong Pagar Exit K. The floor fills from about a quarter past seven with people coming off work, so come in the afternoon if you want it quiet. Children climb from five, one adult to one child, and an adult who only watches still pays.
