T-Play at HomeTeamNS Khatib is the clubhouse’s indoor playground on level one, and the only one in Singapore built around a local cultural theme — Peranakan, developed with The Intan, the Peranakan home museum.
The centrepiece is the Dragon Slide Tower, a nod to the mosaic dragon playgrounds Singapore put up in the seventies, with long slides running down through a tunnel. Slides are what children remember from this place above everything else in it. Around the tower sit an interactive trampoline, a ball pit, a ninja course pitched small enough for young children, a foam ball shooting arena worked by a compressor, and a two-a-side sport pitch. The cultural half is not decoration: entry takes in hands-on batik printing and a chance to try on a baju kurung, and there are Peranakan craft sessions on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Colouring is free during any session, for the point when somebody needs to sit down.
Book ahead. Weekend and public holiday slots sell out, and entry is by fixed two-hour session rather than whenever you happen to arrive — the last one starts at 7pm on Fridays and at weekends. Bring your own socks instead of buying them at the counter, because the pairs sold there are the one thing people consistently grumble about. Members pay considerably less than non-members, so check which rate applies before you book. Children under twelve months come in free alongside a paying child, and nobody over twelve is admitted at all. It closes on Mondays outside public and school holidays. The party room is the other thing this branch is known for — a host runs the games — and it books up for birthdays a long way out.
