WE ART (The Centrepoint)

WE ART is an art studio on level 4 of The Centrepoint, a few minutes from Somerset station, and one of the few in the middle of Orchard Road where you can simply turn up and paint.

Art jamming runs Tuesday to Sunday at $40 to $60 a head for two hours, freestyle or guided — you pick a canvas size, work in acrylics or watercolours, and an instructor is on hand if you want one rather than hovering if you don’t. The same studio runs guided painting workshops that teach colour theory and brush technique, children’s classes from age four in small groups, and seasonal one-offs: Christmas jamming, Valentine’s painting dates, occasional collaborations with cafes and guest artists. Corporate sessions run to collaborative murals and painting competitions, and group rates are negotiable.

It is a more polished room than the shophouse studios this category is mostly made of — premium paints and canvases, and a finish that shows it — which is the trade for the Orchard Road address. Beginners are the point rather than an afterthought: no experience is assumed, and the two-hour session is built to end with something you would actually hang. Doors are 10am to 7pm, with Thursdays running to 9pm, and it is closed on Mondays. Booking is worth doing, and is handled over WhatsApp.
