Sandbox VR (Orchard Central)

Open now Orchard $$$ Premium
Pixel-art illustration of three players in VR headsets and tracking backpacks holding rifle controllers in a bright green free-roam arena, spare harnesses racked on the wall behind them.

Sandbox VR on level 5 of Orchard Central is the full-body end of virtual reality: a haptic vest, motion capture on your limbs, and a room you walk around in rather than a headset and two controllers.

The vest is the difference. When something hits you in the game you feel it land in the right place, which is why people describe it as more physical than any other VR here. There are five game worlds, including Squid Game and Stranger Things alongside dinosaurs and a zombie series. A visit runs about an hour: fifteen minutes of briefing and gearing up, half an hour in the game, then a cinematic highlight reel of your own session to take away.

It suits groups rather than solo players — the games are built for teams of up to six and much of the fun is watching each other flail. It is the most expensive VR in this category, and the fit-out and production justify it if you are going once rather than weekly. Somerset station is a couple of minutes away.
