HyperDrive at The Palawan on Sentosa is an indoor electric go-kart circuit built over three levels — a 308-metre track with fourteen turns, and the first of its kind in Asia.
The karts are electric rather than petrol, which means it is quiet enough to hear yourself and there are no fumes in an enclosed building. There are two tiers: novice karts capped around 30km/h that anyone tall enough can drive without a licence, and faster karts reaching 50km/h with extra requirements. The circuit is gamified, with power-ups collected on track, which sounds gimmicky and turns out to be what keeps children racing rather than trailing round.
To drive alone you need to be at least nine years old and 130cm tall; the bigger karts start at 140cm, and the 50km/h tier asks for a driving licence. A child from 90cm can ride tandem in the passenger seat of a dual kart instead, which is the detail that decides whether a family visit works. Sessions are short — around eight minutes on track — so budget for two if the group is enjoying it. UltraGolf mini golf is in the same complex.
