The Potters’ Guilt at Pearl’s Hill Terrace is run by a collective of working artists, and it teaches the potter’s wheel properly rather than as a novelty.
The entry point is a ninety-minute wheel experience — centring the clay, coning it up and down, then pulling a piece of your own. A three-hour session adds hand-building alongside the wheel, and there is a full beginner course for anyone who wants to keep going. Instructors are practising potters, and classes stay small enough for that to matter.
One practical thing to plan around: firing is charged separately, per piece, and glazed work takes roughly two months to come back. You leave a session empty-handed and collect later, which surprises people who expected to carry a mug home the same day. It suits couples, small groups and anyone wanting a real introduction rather than a photo opportunity. Pearl’s Hill is a short walk from Outram Park or Chinatown.
