AIRZONE is a suspended net playground strung through the atrium of City Square Mall, with bouncy nets spanning levels two to six directly above Farrer Park station.
Every step sinks and springs back, somewhere between walking on water and walking on the moon. From there the structure opens out: a ball pit suspended in mid-air, a slide that drops you from level six, a climbing route up through six storeys, and nets to lie back on like a hammock five floors above the shopping crowds. There is laser tag up there too, played across the nets with people ducking and running between levels, and a silent disco — wireless headphones, pick your channel, dance in the air. A session is $27.90 a person, booked online rather than at the door, and runs about an hour. A four-session pass at $100 brings that down if you expect to come back.
Wear closed-toe shoes; slippers and heels are turned away at the door, and skirts are awkward on nets, though they lend shorts if you arrive in one. There is no age limit, but everyone has to walk and climb the nets unaided — a child under 115cm needs a paying adult on the nets with them, and between 115cm and 135cm an adult has to watch from outside. The weight limit is 120kg. It closes at 8.30pm on weekdays and 9.30pm at weekends, with the last session starting about an hour before that, so check the time before making a late run for it. Two adults playing on a weekday can take the $55 pair ticket, which covers the socks.
