Meso Ceramics occupies the second floor of a conserved shophouse on Geylang Road, five to ten minutes’ walk from Aljunied station. It is the studio that traded until recently as Terra & Ember.
Teaching is what the place is built around. Short experiences start at $65 for the Miniature Wheel and $78 for Hands on the Wheel, both two hours and bookable directly; behind those sit proper courses — First Forms for hand-building and throwing, Thrown Forms for the wheel alone, and The Full Material, which runs from raw clay through to glazing. The instructors are the strength, and patience is the quality that comes up most: this is a room set up to teach a beginner rather than to sell an afternoon.
There are no drop-ins: visits to the studio or the shop are by appointment. One thing to weigh when choosing: the very short taster sessions draw more mixed accounts than the longer courses, including the occasional instructor who shapes the piece for you rather than teaching you to. If you want to learn rather than take home a souvenir, book one of the longer formats.
