Waka Waka (Havelock)

Waka Waka is a different afternoon depending on the day you pick. Come on a Thursday or Friday and you get unlimited playtime and can simply turn up; at weekends, public holidays and school holidays it is a pre-booked slot of an hour and three quarters, and it costs more. If you possibly can, go midweek.

The floor is built around slides — a volcano slide and a run of giant wave slides — with a rope course and obstacle elements for the older ones, trampolines, and a walled soft-play and toddler area at the quiet end. It takes children from about seven months to twelve years. Each ticket covers one child and one adult, with further adults charged on top, and there is a bistro and lounge beside the play floor so whichever adult drew the short straw is at least sitting down.

Two things to know. The arcade corner is charged on top of admission rather than included, so say so before your children find the machines. And upkeep is patchy in places, with the occasional bit of netting missing and often only one member of staff on the floor, so keep your own eye on younger ones rather than assuming the room is being watched.
